More than half of our summer staff are not counselors but are what we call support staff, an integral part of the operation of camp. Support staff members are essential to Cheley’s success and an amazing way to join our staff community. Within our support staff, we have ten teams. Four of these teams have several different positions, including
food service,
media,
medical and well-being, and
program coordinators. Although some positions within a team don’t directly work together, most do.
Support staff members live together in designated camp property cabins and are typically 18 years old. They play an integral part in role modeling. Being on support staff is a very important position, and the choices they make affect the entire camp experience.
All support staff need to have the ability to communicate and work effectively with peers, have the visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards at camp, and have the physical strength and endurance necessary to complete assigned tasks. A positive attitude and a sense of humor are essential. Support staff must be prepared for long hours, minimal personal time, and many rewards.
- Barn Crew, Camp Stores, Child Care, Laundry, Office, Transportation Crew
- Food Service: Cooks, Kitchen Assistants, Storeroom Manager, Munch Inn Manager and Assistant
- Media: Graphic Designer, Photographer, Videographer
- Medical and Well-being: Nurse, Nurse Aide, EMT, Doctor, MESH Support Specialist
- Program Coordinators: Crafts, Ceramics, Woodshop, Riflery, Ropes Course, Outcamping, Rockstock, Hiking/Backpacking
